Garvey, Wohlford shine in Men's Lacrosse victory over Elmhurst

MEQUON, Wis. – Matt Garvey propelled a third-quarter flurry of goals and Garrett Wohlford shut down Elmhurst on Saturday afternoon, as Concordia Wisconsin earned a 12-6 non-conference victory at Fitting Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elmhurst scored four of the last five goals before halftime to take a 4-3 lead at the break, but Concordia Wisconsin's offense erupted for seven goals in the third quarter to take control of the contest. Matt Garvey and Marino Best netted a pair of in the third period.
- Meanwhile, Garrett Wohlford was outstanding between the pipes making a career-best 16 saves, including five in each of the first, second and fourth quarters. His were important because the Bluejays outshot the Falcons 32-15 when he played his best.
- Senior Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) helped CUW dominate the third quarter, as he won 7-of-9 faceoffs to own most of the possession. The Falcons scored seven in the third period and at one point netted 9-of-10 goals during a 23 minute and 28 second span.
- Garvey (senior, Winnipeg, Manitoba) ended his day with a career-best five goals and an assist, while six others found the back of the net at least once. Senior Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman Aidan Connolly (Grayslake, Ill.) each had a goal and assist.
- Senior Zachary Doll (Kirkwood, Mo.) picked up a career-high seven ground balls and junior Benjamin Smith (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) recorded a caeer-high-tying five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Wilson also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Wohlford's 16 saves were the second most in a game in program history.
- The Falcons 18 saves as a team were tied for the most in a game in program history.
- Freshman Mario Baregi (Champlin, Minn.) recorded his first career point on an assist in the fourth quarter.

THE OPPOSITION
- Matt Westhaver led the Bluejays with two goals and an assist. Jackson Mandli scored a goal and assisted on a score.
- Kalani Flowers led the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Eric Langston also caused a pair of turnovers.
- Nick Bonastia made six saves in goal during a complete game losing effort.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons will travel 900 miles to compete against Mount Saint Vincent and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday during their spring break.
