Men's Lacrosse drops MLC contest at Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI – Concordia University Wisconsin struck first, but the College of Mount St. Joseph took control the remainder of the game en route to a 14-12 Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory at Schueler Field.

The Lions answered the Falcons opening goal less than a minute after the first whistle with four-consecutive goals to take control. CMSJ again added four-straight to close out the first half and hold a commanding 9-3 lead.

CUW (7-5, 4-2 MLC) came out of the locker room after the intermission and fired from every angle, outshooting the Lions 32-15 in the final 30 minutes and outscoring them 9-5, but it wasn't enough. After the Falcons rattled off three-straight goals to get within striking distance, 13-11, Will McClanahan tallied his eighth score of the game to slam the door shut in favor of CMSJ (6-6, 4-2 MLC).

Sophomore Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) led the Falcons with four goals, while junior Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and junior Justin Krause (Hartland, Wis.) added three and two goals, respectively. Freshman Robbie Stokka (New Hope, Minn.) added a pair of assists, which were a career high.

Ryan Gallagher and Patrick McClanahan finished with three and two goals, respectively, for the Lions. CMSJ finished with just one score on seven man-up attempts.

CUW, a team that has been strong in the faceoff circle lately, won just 12-of-28 attempts. It also committed a season-low 10 turnovers.

The Falcons will conclude its final road trip – three games – of the season on Wednesday at Carthage College, starting at 7 p.m.
