Aurora scores two decisive goals in win over Men's Lacrosse

AURORA, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin led for almost the entire first half, but Aurora University answered with nine goals over the final two-and-a-half quarters to win an exciting 12-10 Midwest Lacrosse Conference matchup at Vago Field.

The Falcons allowed the game's first score, but answered with two three-run rallies and a goal by Sam Wlaydka to take a 7-3 lead with 10 minutes to play before halftime. The Spartans fired early and often against CUW and finished with a decisive 51-30 shots on goal advantage. AU (9-3, 6-0 MLC) also held a 48-32 lead in ground balls and won 16 of the game's 26 faceoff attempts.

The Spartans allowed the Falcons to clear 21-of-28 attempts, but limited them to a few shots when they had the opportunity. However, when AU was in its offensive zone it constantly took multiple shots the entire game.

Wladyka (junior, Winnipeg, Manitoba), sophomore Matt Larsen (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshman Tyson Roe (Duncan, British Columbia) each tallied a trio of goals for the Falcons. Junior Kyle Burrell (Calgary, Alberta) recorded a team-high five ground balls. Junior Zack Davis (LaPorte, Ind.) made 13 saves for the Falcons.

Pat Diorka marked three goals for the Spartans, while Max Obriecht and Andrew Schossel each scored twice. Garret Rosiek assisted on a game-high three goals. Spencer Fuqua finished with game-highs in ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (8).

CUW's (7-4, 4-1 MLC) downfall on the defensive end of the field was its ability to cause turnovers, as four were recorded. On the other hand, AU caused 18 turnovers.

CUW next plays at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Sunday with a start time scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
