Men's Lacrosse back in the win column at Albion

ALBION, Mich. – Concordia University Wisconsin scored four goals in the final quarter and held off a late Albion College rally to earn a 10-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory on Saturday at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

The Falcons were in control for most of the game, despite giving up two man-up goals in the final three minutes and falling behind by two scores in the second period. CUW outshot AC (3-3) by a 38-34 margin and failed to find the back of the net on second man-up opportunities.

Junior Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba), junior Justin Krause (Hartland, Wis.) and freshman Tyson Roe (Duncan, British Columbia) each tallied two goals for the Falcons. Junior goalkeeper Zack Davis (LaPorte, Ind.) recorded 10 saves in the victory in goal.

Dan Genord led all scorers with three goals, while Tim Urso recorded two goals for the Britons. Joel Hedemark finished with a game-high three assists.

CUW (2-2) trailed for less than seven minutes in the game and committed 15 turnovers – a season-low – en route to evening its season record.

Both teams traded goals in the opening period and the Falcons scored back-to-back goals in the beginning of the second frame to build a 3-1 advantage. The Britons answered with four-straight goals to take their first lead of the game, 5-3, which were their only leads of the game.

Freshman Mariano Best (Naniamo, British Columbia) began a four-goal rally with his only goal of the game with 3:21 remaining before halftime. Wladyka, Roe and junior Peter Morton (Albany, Ga.) also scored during the scoring run.

AC tied the game at 7-7 after three periods of play. Krause found the back of the net twice in the fourth quarter, along with a Roe goal, to push CUW's lead to 10-7 with 3:51 remaining in the game.

Following an unnecessary roughness and cross-check penalties, the Britons converted man-up goals to make the game interesting. Davis made four critical saves down the stretch to preserve the win.

CUW concludes its two-game weekend road trip with a matchup at Alma College on Sunday at 1 p.m. (EST).
