Falcons Prevail Over Badgers in Shootout

MADISON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA Hockey team topped the Wisconsin Badgers 5-4 on Saturday morning, winning the two squads' second matchup in less than 12 hours after a late-night meeting on Friday. Freshman Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) notched two goals in the outing after registering four in the series opener.

Jonathan Gatewood found the first goal of the game, putting the Badgers in front 6:29 into the contest. Wisconsin doubled its lead in the second period as Owen McDonaugh found the back of the net midway through the frame.

Senior Easton Williams (Racine, Wis.) cut the deficit in half three minutes later to notch his seventh goal of the season off of assists from Emme and senior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.).

The Badgers picked up another goal in the opening 20 seconds of the third period, but Concordia answered within a minute, as Emme tallied his tenth goal in his last four games. He made another mark on the scoreboard just under three minutes later to even the game.

Senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) put the Falcons ahead in the match with 8:38 remaining in the game, collecting a shorthanded goal for his of the season. Wisconsin went on to find the equalizer in the final minutes of play to send the game to overtime.

The bonus period proved insufficient in declaring a winner, and the two teams found themselves in a shootout, where senior forward Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) earned the game-winner for the Falcons.

Senior goaltender Vincent Falcone (Elgin, Ill.) recorded 24 saves for the Falcons in the contest.

Concordia will be back in action on February 9 in the quarterfinals of the NCHL Cup.
