Women’s Lacrosse rallies past Midland
FREMONT, Neb. -- Concordia University
Wisconsin scored the final four goals of the game to edge host
Midland University, 9-7, on Saturday afternoon. The contest was
called to an end with 9:52 to play in regulation due to lightning
in the area. The win was just the second in program history for CUW
and the first road win ever.
CUW got the game's first goal from freshman Sammi Reiter
(Stillwater, Minn.) but MU scored the next two before Reiter tied
the score.
From that point on things went back
and forth, but the second-year Falcons found themselves behind by a
6-4 halftime count as only senior Marie Melton (Prior Lake, Minn.)
and freshman Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) found the back of the
net for the remainder of the initial half while Warriors struck for
four tallies.
Reiter scored her third goal to cut the deficit to 6-5 early in the
second half, but MU answered almost immediately to take a 7-5 lead.
With their backs to the wall, the Concordia defense played rock
solid until the match was called. Meanwhile sophomore Aly Pinkos
(South Milwaukee, Wis.), Melton, freshman Bailey Rasmussen (Grand
Rapids, Minn.), and freshman Alina Zibutis (Naperville, Ill.) all
notched critical goals.
Statistics showed what an even match it was as CUW led in shots
27-24 and ground balls 18-12. MU won the faceoff battle 11-10.
CUW head coach Emily Mason's squad (2-8), hosts Carthage College
next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Fitting Field.
