Women's Lacrosse drops Trine in regular season finale

MEQUON, Wis. – After a disappointing loss to conference rival Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's lacrosse team bounced back with a 17-10 victory over Trine University on Sunday afternoon at Fitting Field.

Sunday's win marked the final game of the regular season for the Falcons, who still had a slim chance of qualifying for the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament at game time.

CUW (3-11, 2-4 MWLC) got goals from seven different players, led by freshman Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.), who found the net four times in the second half.

Freshmen Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) and Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) and senior Marie Melton (Prior Lake, Minn.), who was honored before the game on CUW's Senior Day, each contributed with three goals apiece.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that featured five ties and four lead changes, with neither team leading by more than two goals.

Two goals from Trine (3-7, 3-4 MWLC) midway through the first period tied the score at 6-6, and that score stood until halftime.

The second half was the difference for the Falcons, however, as they took advantage of a second yellow card, and consequent ejection, handed to Trine's Emily Shreeve.

CUW went on to find the net 10 times in the half's first 21 minutes to pull away from the Thunder and seal the win.

Sophomore Aly Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Alina Zibutis (Naperville, Ill.) also scored a goal for the Falcons, while freshman goalie Rebecca David (Oregon, Wis.) made 14 saves between the pipes.
