Men's Volleyball Puts Up Record Breaking Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's volleyball team had a season full of records.

The Falcons started out the conference schedule with a bang notching a 3-0 victory over the Warriors.  This game would see a school-record 17 service aces on the back of junior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.) putting up 10 by himself.

In their game against Edgewood, they hit a blistering .400 to set another school record.  This was then broken again against the Regents of Rockford when the Blue and White hit .495 on the night.  Freshman Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) hit .615 on the night.

In the same game, the Falcons set a three-set record with 40 assists in the three sets.  Senior Matthew Korman (Roscoe, Ill.) added 35 of those.

The men's volleyball team was set to end the season at home against Concordia Chicago for senior night before the game was canceled out of an abundance of caution.  They decided instead to honor their seniors with a Blue vs. White scrimmage.

The Falcons also set another program record.  This was not in the statistical form, but in the fact that they upset the MSOE Raiders in the first round of the NACC Tournament.  This is their first NACC Tournament win in their four years of existence.  The Falcons drew the Raiders to five sets after winning sets one and three.  In the fifth set, they fought off a 10-6 hole as well as a 14-11 deficit to go on to beat MSOE for the second time in their history with a score of 16-14.  The Falcons saw three players hitting better than .225 on the night in senior Blake Schwandt (Kenosha, Wis.), junior Cody Sciabica (Henderson, Nev.), and Spencer Herman.  Herman hit .278, Sciabica hit,235, and Schwandt had a behemoth of a night hitting .545 on 11 swings.

The Falcons' journey was cut short in the second round of the NACC Tournament with a loss to no. 9 Dominican.  The Falcons ended up playing three of four teams that made it to the NCAA final four in their regular season.

The Falcons were led in hitting percentage by sophomore Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) hitting a whopping .322 on the season.

Two Falcons earned All-NACC honors.  Althoff and Herman were named to the All-NACC first team.  Another program first in having multiple All-NACC selections.  Herman was also named NACC freshman of the year which is another first for the program.

The team is pumped to come back and chase their first conference title in the upcoming season.
