Falcons Win with Wisconsin in Illinois vs. Wisconsin Challenge

MEQUON, Wis. – The men's golf team took part in a state battle that saw schools such as Lake Forest, Benedictine, Aurora, and Elmhurst for Illinois and CUW, MSOE, Marian, and Edgewood for the Wisconsin side.

This Ryder Cup-style event saw a morning 18-hole match and an afternoon 18-hole match.  The morning matches were nine holes of a four-man best ball while the second nine holes were single score.  The afternoon matches had nine holes of four-man alternate shot and another nine holes of singles.

The morning pairing pitted the Falcons against Elmhurst in a match that would see the Blue and White prevail 5.5-3.5.  The first pairing would see wins from the team of sophomore Andrew Carlton (Kewaskum, Wis.) and freshman Nico Murgas Bennett (Hartford, Wis.) as well as the team of senior Jordan Carlton (Kewaskum, Wis.) and freshman Leighton Marion-Burns (Regina, Sask.).

The singles matches would see wins from junior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) as well as Leighton Marion-Burnes and Jordan Carlton.  The Wisconsin team would take the morning session three matches to one over the Illinois squad.

The afternoon session saw the Falcons take on a NACC opponent Aurora.  The Falcons dropped the match 8-1 to the Spartans.

The afternoon sessions would see a singles win by Jordan Carlton.  The session would be split 2-2 between the states bringing the final tally to a 5-3 victory for Wisconsin.

The Falcons are back in action this weekend at the MSOE Invitational at the Grand Geneva Resort.
