Falcons Overwhelm Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team picked up a big victory on the road in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference on Saturday afternoon at Edgewood. The Falcons secured a 78-66 victory to conclude finals week.

Sophomore Severin Hilt (West Bend, Wis.) gave the Falcons their first lead of the day at 5-4 with a three-point basket.

A jumper from Hilt extended the lead to 10-4 with 16:25 left.

The Eagles cut the Concordia lead to one point at 18-17.

Leading 21-19, the Falcons used a 9-0 to earn some separation.

Sophomore Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) sank a turnaround jumper to give the Falcons a 40-28 lead heading into halftime.

The 40 points are the most in the first half for the Falcons. The 12-point margin was also the biggest halftime lead of the year.

Casey Verhagen scored three points the old-fashioned way with 13:16 left in the contest to give the Falcons a 51-36 lead.

The Eagles eyed a late comeback but sophomore Mehki Sutton (San Diego, Calif.) connected on five free throws along with two more from sophomore Matt Merlo (Random Lake, Wis.) to preserve the victory.

The 30 made free throws are the fifth most in program history.

Casey Verhagen finished with a career-best 31 points in the victory to go with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

On Saturday, the Falcons held a 34-30 advantage in rebounds. Matt Merlo led the contest with eight rebounds to go with his 10 points.

The Falcons look to build a winning streak in Florida when they face Mount Saint Vincent and Lasell.
