Warriors Sneak Past Falcons

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team dropped to 1-2 in conference play on Wednesday night, taking a loss to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors by a 73-55 margin. Senior Freeman Jackson (Green Bay, Wis.) led the way for the Falcons offensively in the contest, tallying 16 points in his second-highest-scoring game of the season.

Concordia jumped out to a 9-1 lead early in the first half, and would expand its lead to nine points as the score grew to 17-8. However, a quick jump shot from Grayson Goetz sparked a run for the Warriors as they took 11 of the game's next 13 points to draw even with the Falcons.

Both squads exchanged points for the remainder of the half, but Wisconsin Lutheran claimed its first lead in the final minute, and took the advantage into the break.

Freshman Matt Merlo (Random Lake, Wis.) opened the scoring for the Falcons in the second half, collecting a layup to pull within two. The Warriors would begin to pull away in the ensuing minutes, but a three-pointer from fellow freshman Jacob Christjohn (Cudahy, Wis.) cut the deficit back to a single possession. Senior Gabe Pruss (North Fond du Lac, Wis.) would draw the Falcons even closer, collecting a layup and free throw to bring the score to 36-38.

Ultimately, the Warriors would then increase the distance on the scoreboard as the half evolved, keeping the Falcons' offense at bay en route to the 73-55 victory. CUW shot 10-for-30 in the second half, and went 2-for-13 from behind the arc.

Concordia will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, December 9 against the 6-2 Rockford Regents.
