Men’s Basketball Falls Short in Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team opened a challenging opening weekend against the Dutch of Central (Iowa). The Dutch took the opening game of opener of the Loras Mike Molstead Motors Tip Off Classic with a 70-62 victory.

The Dutch are projected to win the American Rivers Conference.

The Falcons found themselves in an early hole on Saturday with the Dutch taking an early 8-2 lead.

The Blue and White quickly dissolved the deficit quickly and a layup from senior Gabe Pruss (North Fond DU Lac, Wis.) gave the Falcons an 11-10 lead.

Senior Freeman Jackson (Green Bay, Wis.) scored three points the old-fashioned way to put the Falcons up 17-10 with 12:33 left in the first half.

The Dutch continued to cut into the lead, but the Falcons held a 32-31 lead at halftime.

The Red and White opened the second half with a 9-2 run to push the lead up to 40-34 in the first three minutes of the half.

The Falcons once again responded with a run of their own and a layup from Freeman Jackson tied the game at 42 with 15:09 remaining.

Central used a 15-3 run to get some separation and secure the win on Saturday night.

Gabe Pruss led the flock with 22 points, seven rebounds and four steals on Saturday.

Freeman Jackson finished with 14 points.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday against Loras.
