Women's Hockey uses special teams advantage to skate past Saints

DULUTH, Minn. – Facing a 3-2 deficit heading into the third period, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team got two third-period power play goals from Lexi Holman to rally past St. Scholastica, 4-3, on Saturday. The win keeps the Falcons hopes for the NCHA playoffs alive, although they will need help moving forward.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) buried two power play goals in the third period for the 4-3 win. Both were assisted by seniors Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) and Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.). Metanova, who became the program's all-time point's leader last weekend, set the career assists record with her helpers on Saturday. She now has 54 career assists.

- All four of the Falcons goals were scored on the power play as they finished 4-for-9 on the advantage in a game that featured several penalties. St. Scholastica was 0-for-7 on the power play, giving CUW a decisive special teams advantage.

- The first period saw each team score once with the Saints going up 1-0 just 1:10 into play. The Falcons would answer at the 5:52 mark on a power play score sophomore Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba). Sophomore Ellie Woodman and senior Baylee Darling (Holmen, Wis.) assisted on the Danis score.

- St. Scholastica would go up 2-1 seven minutes into the second period but CUW again answered just minutes later. This time it was Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) who scored on the power play with Muller and Holman picking up assists. The Saints would add a score for a 3-2 lead before the second intermission.

- Sophomore Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) picked up her sixth win of the season with a 25-save performance. The Falcons dominated in terms of shots on goal, firing 47 shots Lindsey Hartfiel, who finished the game with 43 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Metanova became the first CUW Women's Hockey player to reach 90 career points with her two assists on Saturday.

- The Falcons will now become fans of Lake Forest and St. Norbert, the teams' Marian plays over its final four games of the season. CUW needs Marian to record just one point (or less) over its final three games for the Falcons to qualify for the NCHA Playoffs. The Sabres lost against Lake Forest tonight and will take them on again tomorrow before playing at St. Norbert next weekend.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will play a non-conference game next weekend against UW-Stevens Point. The game will also be Senior Day, as five Falcons will be honored. Puck drop is set for noon.
