Kennedy sets goals record, Women's Hockey routs Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. – Sophomore Kristen Kennedy became the first Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey player to score four goals in a game, as she helped lead the Falcons to an 8-1 win over Finlandia University Friday night. Kennedy finished the game with five points, tying the Falcons program record in goals and points in a single contest.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 8, Finlandia 1
- Location: Houghton County Arena – Hancock, Michigan
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 3-3-0, 2-2-0 NCHA; Finlandia 0-7-0, 0-4-0 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kennedy (London, Ontario) had her hat trick by the second intermission, scoring once in the first period and tallying the only two goals of the second. Senior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) and sophomore Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) added power play goals in the first, helping CUW build a 5-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

- Freshman Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) added a goal in the third period, as did Muller and Kennedy scored in the final second for her program-record fourth goal.

- Six Falcons recorded two or more points, led by Kennedy's five. Wanless totaled three points with a goal and two assists, Muller scored twice and added an assist, Nicole Krumwiede assisted on two goals, as did senior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) Woodman scored once and assisted on another goal.

- Junior Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) and freshmen Brittany Thompson (Mundelein, Ill.) and Issy Bilton each added assists for the Falcons. Thompson's assist was the first career point for the rookie defenseman.

- Freshman Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) received her first career start between the pipes for the Falcons and responded with a 28-save performance for her first victory. CUW finished the game with a 36-28 edge in shots.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The eight goals scored is tied for the second most in program history. CUW scored nine in a win over Finlandia last season on November 14. In addition, the Falcons have now tallied eight goals three times against the Lions, while the other eight-goal game happened in a win over Marian in 2010-11.
