Holman ties single-game point record; Women's Hockey routs Finlandia

MEQUON, Wis. – During a five-game losing streak, which they played five straight against ranked teams, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team struggled in putting goals on the scoreboard. The Falcons had no problems lighting the lamp on Friday night, scoring six times in a 6-1 win over Finlandia at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Lexi Holman tied a program-record with five points, while Veronika Metanova added four in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The offense woes actually continued for the first period as despite 19 shots on goal, the Falcons faced a 1-0 deficit after 20 minutes of play.

- CUW got going in the second with three scores, two off the stick of Metanova (Palatine, Ill.). Holman assisted on both Metanova scored, while Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) had two assists in the period as well.

- Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) had the other score in the second, as her goal was assisted by both Kennedy and Metanova. Metanova and Holman finished the second with three points, Kennedy tallying the two assists.

- Three more goals were added in the third for the Falcons to secure the decisive win. Holman scored the first of those, coming off assists by Metanova and sophomore Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.). Woodman would tally the game's final score, with Holman and senior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) picking up assists. Woodman's score came on the power play.

- The middle goal of the third period was scored 11:26 into the frame and was the first career score for freshman Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ontario). Picking up her first career point on the Bilton goal was freshman Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ontario).

- Freshman Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) picked up her fourth win of the season with an 11-save performance.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Holman became the third player to record five points in a game, joining Sarah Luberda and teammate Kristen Kennedy. Kennedy did so earlier this season against the Lions.

- The Falcons fired 56 shots as a team, the third-most in a game in program history. The most was 63 on January 18, 2013, at Marian.

- Metanova is now four points from tying Luberda as the Falcons career point leader. She has 82 now in her impressive career, including 51 assists, which is second all-time and just two back of Hilary Christiansen.

UP NEXT
- CUW will conclude the series against the Lions tomorrow at 3 p.m. The day will also be Pink the Rink, a doubleheader with the men's team to help in the fight against cancer.
