Softball suffers pair of losses in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - After going 0-2 on the first day of action at the NTC Spring Games on Saturday, the Concordia University Wisconsin softball team suffered another pair of defeats on Sunday, falling 5-2 against UW-Platteville before losing 11-6 against Buffalo State College.

In the first game of the day, CUW (2-6) held a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning against Platteville, but the Pioneers erupted for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal a victory.

Sophomore Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) went 2-for-4 for the Falcons, collecting a double and a triple while also scoring a run.

Senior Danielle Burke (Burlington, Wis.) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Against Buffalo State, the Falcons again held the lead early on, scoring four runs in the first inning and leading 5-2 heading into the fourth inning.

The Bengals got their offense going late, scoring in each of the final four innings before exploding for five runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Senior Sarah Cochran (Bloomington, Ill.) cracked a first inning grand slam for the Falcons, while sophomore Breanne Geipel (Hartland Wis.) went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.

Sophomore Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) started on the mound for CUW and pitched four innings, giving up three runs on four hits while collecting five strikeouts.

The Falcons will be back in action on Monday, when they'll take on Frostburg State at 9 a.m. before facing Williams College at 11 a.m.
