Softball hosts Alverno in doubleheader on Saturday
MEQUON, Wis. - With just over a
week left in its regular season, the Concordia University Wisconsin
will play host to a doubleheader with Northern Athletics Conference
rival Alverno College on Saturday afternoon at the CUW Softball
Complex.
First pitch between the Falcons and Inferno is
scheduled for 12 p.m., and Matt Menzl's live
audio play-by-play call, along with live
stats, will be provided for any fans unable to attend.
CUW (18-12, 13-3 NAC) has been cruising through
conference play as of late, winning seven of its last eight games
while posting some lopsided final score lines.
In the circle, sophomore Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.)
and senior Danielle Burke (Burlington, Wis.) have teamed up to toss
a combined 141 strikeouts, and are a big reason why the Falcons
have allowed three runs or fewer in all 13 of their conference
victories.
Offensively, senior catcher Chelsie Strosina
(Burlington, Wis.) has been red hot for the Falcons, ranking fifth
in the NAC with a .480 on-base percentage, while batting .370 with
15 RBI.
Alverno (13-15, 6-8 NAC) comes into Saturday riding a
two-game winning streak after sweeping a doubleheader against
non-conference foe Mount Mary College on Wednesday.
The Inferno has been led by pitcher Erin Dulek, who
currently has the NAC's fifth-best ERA (2.20) to go with 74
strikeouts this season.
At the plate, Alverno has leaned on junior Stef Wilmore, who ranks third in the NAC with a .447 batting average while also smacking four home runs.
