Wendland Breaks CUW Heptathlon Record

WHITEWATER, Wis. – Saturday saw Freshman Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) break the CUW men's indoor track and field program record for points in the heptathlon with a score of 3,817, surpassing the previous record established in 2022. 

Wendland's outstanding performance secured him the third spot in the heptathlon event at the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational, competing against athletes from UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater.

In the 60-meter dash, Wendland ran a time of 7.85 seconds, while he had a personal record in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:47.93, clinching third position among heptathlon participants. 

The 60-meter hurdles witness Wendland setting another personal record, completing the race in an impressive 9.53 seconds, earning him fourth among heptathletes. 

Meanwhile, he recorded a mark of 7.49 meters in the shot put.

In the field events, Wendland notched two top-three finishes, claiming third place in the high jump with a height of 1.74 meters and third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.95 meters, while his long jump measured an impressive 5.67 meters. 

Looking ahead, Wendland and the other CUW men's track and field squad will resume competition on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, at the Stevens Point Big Dawg Invite.
