Men's Track & Field Secures Third Place at Lake Michigan Open

KENOSHA, Wis. – The CUW men's track and field team put together a solid performance at the Lake Michigan Open meet, securing third place with 69 team points. The host school, NCAA Division II UW-Parkside, claimed the top spot. 

Senior Dane Tischendorf (Antigo, Wis.) led the charge in the 55-meter dash, earning four points with a commendable sixth-place finish with a time of 6.78 seconds. 

Meanwhile, in the 800-meter dash, freshmen Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.) and Ian Brown (Wheaton, Ill.) recorded times of 25.76 and 25.90, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.) finished the race with a time of 26.29 seconds. 

Senior Ryan Klug (Arlington, Va.) finished 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 2:32.73. Klug also competed in the in the 800-meter.

The mile saw freshman Isaiah Lubner (Campbellsport, Wis.) and senior Timmy Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.) continue their excellent indoor campaign, as Lubner took fourth in the mile for four team points at a time of 4:26.91, while Brey finished fifth with a time of 4:30.11, good enough for one team point. 

Junior Bernie Van Den Heuvel (Valders, Wis.) also continued his strong indoor season, as he took second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds, a time that now ranks eighth all-time in CUW men's indoor track and field history. Meanwhile, sophomore Brandon Donahue (Slinger, Wis.) also earned a point for the Blue and White, taking seventh in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.00 seconds.

The 4x400 meter relay also earned the Falcons two points, as a team made up of Brandon Donahue, freshman Aaron Klug (Arlington, Va.), Bernie Van Den Heuvel, and freshman Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.) took eighth with a time of 4:17.93. 

Freshman Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) continued his excellent indoor season, taking fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.65 meters. Wendland also led the flock in the long jump with a mark of 5.95 meters, while Bernie Van Den Heuvel and Nick Taylor finished in 10th and 11th, as Van Den Heuvel had a mark of 5.67 meters, and Taylor had a mark of 5.53 meters. 

Aaron Klug competed in the triple jump and earned four points, leaping 11.03 meters and securing fifth place.

In the shot put, the Falcons amassed 15 points. Junior Mitchell Moeller had a mark of 12.95 meters, earning him second place and eight team points, while freshman Caleb Palbicki (Pewaukee, Wis.) took fourth with a distance of 10.15 meters. Junior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) earned two points with his throw that had a distance of 10.05 meters, while sophomore John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) took sixth and earned the Falcons one point with a throw of 9.57 meters. 

The throws squad continued to impress in the weight throw, securing 23 points in that event alone. Mitchell Moeller took first with a mark of 16.30 meters, while John Kutner took second with a 12.33 meter mark. At fourth was Jacob Couillard with a mark of 10.39 meters, while Caleb Palbicki took sixth with a mark of 9.98 meters. 

Next week, the Falcons will compete at UW-Whitewater in the Whitewater Squiq Coverse Open & Multi meet, set to take place on Jan. 26th and 27th.
