Men’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season

RIPON, Wis. – The CUW men's track and field team opened their 2023-24 indoor season at the Ripon Winter Open.

The Falcons finished fifth and scored 16 points, while UW-Oshkosh claimed first place with 279.5 points. 

The 60-meter hurdles saw the Bernie Van Den Heuvel (Valdres, Wis.) take fourth place with a time of 9.06 seconds, securing the Falcons five points. 

Meanwhile, freshman Se'Korrey Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) took eighth place in the 200-meter dash in his first collegiate meet with a time of 23.51 seconds to earn CUW one point.

Thomas also led the Falcons in the 60-meter prelims with a time of 7.10 seconds and took ninth place, while fellow freshman Thomas James (Houston, Texas) took 14th place at 7.21 seconds. 

Also, in the 60-meter prelims were junior Bernie Van Den Heuvel, sophomore Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.), sophomore Paul Brock (St. Louis, Mo.), sophomore Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.), junior Dalton Hribar (Oconomowoc, Wis.), freshman Anthony Bravo Jr. (Houston, Texas), and freshman Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.). 

The 300-meter dash saw Dalton Hribar lead the Falcons with a time of 40.74 seconds for ninth place, while Luke Witte took 10th at 41.43 and senior Josh Peterson (Palatine, Ill.) took 12th, finishing the race with a time of 41.73 seconds. 

The high jump saw Freshman Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) score two points after clearing a distance of 1.77 meters. 

Meanwhile, the pole vault saw junior Nate Waech (West Bend, Wis.) clear a height of 3.80 meters for 10th place.  

In the throws pit, for the weight throw, junior Mitchell Moeller (Cedarburg, Wis.) earned CUW eight points and took second place with a distance of 16.00 meters. Mitchell Moeller also took 10th in the shot put, throwing a distance of 13.34 meters. 

Freshman Caleb Palbicki (Pewaukee, Wis.) threw a distance of 9.60 meters in the shot put and 8.24 meters in the weight row in his collegiate debut. 

The Falcons will now shift their attention to the Carthage Firebird First meet, set to take place on January 13th, 2024.
