Men’s Track and Field Competes at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team kicked off the 2024 season of their season at the Firebird First Invitational, securing a fifth-place finish with 51 points. Carthage College, the host school, claimed the top spot with a score of 173.

A standout performance came from the Falcons in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, where the team, consisting of senior Timmy Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.), freshman Mason Everts (Saukville, Wis.), freshman Aaron Klug (Arlington, Va.), and freshman Isaiah Lubner (Campbellsport, Wis.) finished with a combined time of 12:16.58, securing eight team points for the Blue and White. 

Meanwhile, the 3000-meter race saw freshman Karl Glick (Boca Raton, Fla.)  take fifth place with a time of 9:30.74 to earn the Falcons four team points.  

Isaiah Lubner and Timmy Brey also took part in the 800-meter run, as Lubner took fourth place with a time of 1:59.61, adding four points to CUW's total. Lubner's mark is also suitable for fifth all-time in the CUW men's track and field indoor record book. Meanwhile, Timmy Brey took 10th in the event at 2:05.87. 

Freshman Se'Korrey Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) contributed six points to the Falcon's total in the 55-meter dash, running at a time of 6.66 seconds, taking fourth place. Thomas's time is seventh in CUW's indoor track and field program history for the 55-meter dash.  

The Falcons also gained a combined seven points in the 55-meter dash as junior Bernie Van Den Heuvel (Valders, Wis.) took third in the event with a time of 8.46 seconds. With that time, Van Den Heuvel moves to eighth all-time in CUW indoor men's track and field history for the event. Earning the other point in the event was freshman Zach Wendland, who took eighth with a time of 8.93 seconds.  

Earning the five team points for the Falcons was the 4x400 relay, which took seventh place with a time of 3:47.93. The team comprised of sophomore Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.), Zach Wendland senior Josh Peterson (Palantine, Ill.), and Se'Korrey Thomas

Meanwhile, over at the pole vault pit, junior Nate Waech (West Bend, Wis) recorded a height of 3.85 meters, taking fourth place and earning CUW five team points. 

In the field events, Zach Wendland tied for first when he placed a mark of 1.85 meters in the high jump, earning the Falcons nine team points. 

The long jump saw CUW have three athletes finish in the top 13 as sophomore Mason Knueppel (Jackson, Wis.) led the flock with a height of 6.13 meters, good for eighth place and one team point. Bernie Van Den Heuvel finished 12th with a mark of 5.68 meters, while Brandon Donahue (Hubertus, Wis.) leaped a distance of 5.67 meters for 13th place. 

Mason Knueppel also took eight in the triple jump, scoring one team with a distance of 11.56 meters. Aaron Klug also took ninth with a mark of 10.60 meters, which he reached in his first attempt. 

In the first throwing event, junior Mitchell Moeller (Cedarburg, Wis.) led the flock with a mark of 12.21 meters, good for 11th place. Also competing in the event were Caleb Palbicki (Pewaukee, Wis.) and junior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.), who took 16th and 17th, respectively. 

Mitchell Moeller led the Falcons in the weight throw of 15.22 meters, earning the Falcons two points at seventh place. Meanwhile, sophomore John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) took 16th with a throw of 11.01 meters. 

The Blue and White will resume competition next week on Jan. 20th and head back to Kenosha to compete at UW-Parkside in the Lake Michigan Open, slated to start at 10:00 a.m.
