Men's Track & Field competes at Augustana Meet of Champions

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team continued its outdoor season Saturday at the Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College.

The Falcons had perhaps their most impressive day of personal-bests during the outdoor season as several athletes recorded top times and distances at the competitive meet. The event that saw several big PRs for CUW was the 1,500-meter run, where five athletes ran a new best time. Leading that bunch was sophomore Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) as he ran a 4:13.54, which was a 16-second PR. Junior Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) added a 13-second PR with a time of 4:17.61, while junior Adam Fell (Mundelein, Ill.) posted a six-second PR with a time of 4:19.37. Emanuel Huerta-Gutierrez (4:28.15) and Nathan Hasenstein (4:34.67) also posted PRs in the 1500 on Saturday.

In another distance event, senior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) clocked in at 33:59.99 in the 10K, which was not only a PR, but also was the fourth fastest time in the NACC this season. Jake Roy (Appleton, Wis.) added a 51-second 400-meter dash, which ranks third in the NACC this season, while Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) posted a PR in the 100-meter dash at 11.92. Jacob Schwark (Fraser, Mich.) also posted a PR in the 100, running a 12.18.

The Falcons 4X100-meter relay team, which was comprised of Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.), Russ, Tyus Groos (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Roy, ran the second fastest time in the NACC this season as they posted a 43.80.

The track wasn't the only place where the Falcons excelled on Saturday as several field athletes posted new top marks as well. While not posting PRs at the Meet of Champions, both Tyler White (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) had multiple marks that ranked inside the top five in the NACC. White now ranks fourth in both the long and triple jump, while Faber ranks third in the hammer throw and fifth in the shot put.

Tyler Martinkus (Mokena, Ill.) had three PRs on Saturday in his three throwing events. Martinkus posted marks of 11.18 meters in the shot put, 25.61 in the discus and 28.05 in the hammer throw. Logan Goss (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added a PR in both the long jump (5.43) and triple jump (12.20), while Seth Donovan (Caledonia, Wis.) added a new best distance in the discus at 32.77 meters. Colter Dziekan (Mondovi, Wis.) also had a PR on Saturday, tossing the javelin 33.85 meters.

The Falcons also had a few athletes compete in the decathlon and Trent Pachecho (Iron Mountain, Mich.) was one of those who not only competed, but spent the day setting new PRs for himself. Pachecho had seven different PRs on the day in his decathlon competition.

The Falcons will be back in action next weekend in their final tune-up before the NACC Championships in two weeks. Next weekend's meet, the Wisconsin Private College Championships, hosted by St. Norbert College, are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25.
