Men's Track & Field competes at UWM Tune-Up meet

MILWAUKEE – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team competed in its final meet before the NACC Indoor Championships, taking part in the UW-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up Friday evening.

It was a day full of PRs again for the Falcons, including freshman Jake Roy (Appleton, Wis.) as he continues to impress in his rookie season. Roy ran a 52.15 in the 400-meter dash, which is a full second faster than his previous best and now ranks him second in the NACC. He added a PR of 7.47 in the 60-meter dash.

The 60 was an event several Falcons set new PRs in Friday as seven others joined Roy with new personal-bests. Zak DeWindt (Germantown, Wis.), Colter Dziekan (Mondovi, Wis.), Sam Franckowiak (Carpentersville, Ill.), Silas Hasselbrook (Missoula, Mont.), Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.), Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Jacob Schwark (Fraser, Mich.) all had a PR in the event. Hasselbrook posted a time of 7.27, which ranks him ninth in the NACC. Schwark and Pachecho each added PRs in the pole vault as well, each clearing 3.20 meters.

Hasselbrook spent most of his day setting a new PR, as he also had new top times in the 60-meter high hurdles and the 200. Both of his times rank him sixth in the NACC, 8.70 in the hurdles and 23.75 in the 200. Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) added a personal-best time in the 400, running a 54.03.

Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) continued his strong indoor season with a 1.5 second PR in the 800-meter run. Goesch posted a time of 2:00.84, which now ranks him fifth in the NACC. Alex Rosenau (Van Dyne, Wis.) ran a 2:08.63 in the 800, also a PR for the Falcons.

CUW had four runners post a personal-best time in the mile, led by Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) as he ran a 4:38.25, four seconds faster than his previous best. Taylor ranks ninth in the NACC in the mile. Adam Fell (Mundelein, Ill.), Brennan Linse (Jefferson, Wis.) and Johann Hinck (Cedarburg, Wis.) add PRs in the mile with times of 4:38.87, 4:45.98 and 4:55.05, respectively. Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) ran to a PR by 12 seconds in the 3,000, clocking in at 9:22.67.

CUW had a few personal-best efforts in the throwing events, including two by freshman Tyler Martinkus (Mokena, Ill.). Martinkus had a huge PR in the weight throw, landing 10.71 meters which was three meters better than his previous efforts. He added a toss of 11.99 meters in the shot put. Jayshilkumar Patel (Gujarat, India) added a PR in the shot put (9.45). Tafari Young (Orlando, Fla.) added a personal-best effort in the long jump with a leap of 5.10 meters.

The NACC Indoor Championships will begin at 10 a.m. next Saturday at UW-Parkside.
