Men's Track & Field opens season at Wisconsin Private College Invite

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field had a successful start to its 2015 Indoor Season as the Falcons took part in the Wisconsin Private College Invitational, hosted by Carthage College.

The Falcons finished in sixth place at the meet, which consisted of 13 teams, scoring 33 points during the day. CUW was paced by senior captain Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) and his third-place finish in the weight throw. Faber shattered his previous best mark by recording a toss of 16.55 meters, which also broke his own school record. He added a seventh-place finish in the shot put, landing a throw of 13.60 meters for a strong start to his senior season.

The Falcons had a strong performance in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday with three runners scoring points by finishing in the top eight. Leading the way was junior Christopher Biesboer (Elmhurst, Ill.) as he clocked in at 9:38.35, good for a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) ran a PR and finished seventh with a time of 9:41.02, while senior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) placed eighth with a time of 9:41.89.

Making strong debuts at the meet were freshmen Silas Hasselbrook (Missoula, Mont.) and Tyus Groos (Stevens Point, Wis.). Hasselbrook placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles after running an 8.16. He qualified for the finals by posting a time of 8.12 in his first crack at the event. Groos showed his ability in the long jump by leaping 6.11 meters, good for an eighth-place finish.

CUW also got an eighth-place finish from Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) in the 400-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 53.77. Sophomore Jacob Grosenick (Richfield, Wis.) posted a PR in the 200-meter dash for the Falcons with a time of 24.93.

CUW will be back in action Friday, January 30 when they return to Carthage for the Tadd Metzger Invitational.
