Men's Soccer plays to 1-1 draw in NACC match against Aurora

AURORA, Ill. – Sophomore Keegan Van Dusseldorp scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season as the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Aurora University Saturday afternoon.

It took 57:24 to see the first goal of the match as Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) scored off a pass from senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. Pope now leads the team with seven assists in 2013.

The 1-0 lead looked as it would hold but Aurora answered with 6:01 left in regulation on a goal from Anthony Parra. The final 6:01 of regulation and twenty minutes of overtime saw no goals as the two teams each recorded a point in the conference standings.

Sophomore Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) played well in his first career collegiate start, recording four saves, all four coming in the first 45 minutes of play. His counterpart, Zach Richter, made one save, which occurred in overtime.

CUW was outshot 16-14 and 5-2 in shots on goal. Aurora held a 7-4 advantage in first-half shots, while CUW reversed those numbers in the second half, outshooting the Spartans 7-4. AU then held a 5-3 edge in shots over the two overtime sessions. Parra led all players with five shots, while the trio of Van Dusseldorp and freshmen Gavin Winston (Park Forest, Ill.) and Justin Clayton each recorded three shots to pace the Falcons.

CUW moved its conference record to 2-2-1 in the win as they currently sit in a three-way tie for the sixth spot in the standings. The Falcons will have plenty of time to improve their conference standing with five league matches remaining.

The Falcons (5-6-2) will return to the pitch Tuesday when they host Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match. CUW and Marian are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Fitting Field.
