Men's Soccer uses offensive outburst to down Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team had no shortage of offense on Wednesday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match against Rockford University. The Falcons scored 10 times to down RU, 10-1, improving to 2-2-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Ryan Carey (Appleton, Wis.) recorded his first career hat trick, while freshman Gavin Winston added two goals as the Falcons reached their highest scoring total since the 2008 season in a match against Concordia University Chicago. Since 2003, CUW has scored 10 or more goals just four times.

Sophomore Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) got the scoring started as he scored at the 20 minute mark on an unassisted goal. Seven of the Falcons 10 goals were unassisted. Winston (Park Forest, Ill.) put CUW up 2-0 off an assist from senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) just 2:50 after the opening goal.

Carey recorded two of his three goals before halftime, scoring back-to-back goals at 28:16 and 31:44. The second goal was assisted by junior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.). Diego Ramos of Rockford made the score 4-1 at the 32:18 mark, but the Falcons pushed the lead back to four with 5:57 remaining in the first half when senior Blake Edler (St. Charles, Mo.) tallied his first career collegiate goal.

The Falcons would add five more scoring marks in the second half en route to the 10-1 victory. Winston scored off an assist from Campos to start the second-half scoring. Freshman Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) made the score 7-1, while Carey finished off his hat trick at the 81:17 mark. Sophomores Mitchell Boehm (Plymouth, Mich.) and Mark Samuel (Brookfield, Wis.) each scored their first goals of the season for the Falcons.

The Falcons recorded 26 shots in the game, scoring on an impressive 38.5 percent of those shots. CUW scored five times on just eight tries in the second half. Winston paced the team with five shots, while Carey needed just three to gain the hat trick. Rockford finished the match with four shots, two coming in each half.

Junior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) and sophomore Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) split time in net for CUW as Vogel gained his fifth win of the season. Each player stopped one shot while their counterpart, Chris Kunde, made seven saves.

CUW (5-6-1) will look to move to over .500 in conference play Saturday as they are scheduled to take on Aurora University. The match from Vago Field in Aurora, Ill. is set for 12 p.m. Live stats will be available from CUWFalcons.com.
