First period costs Men's Hockey in setback against Adrian

MEQUON, Wis. – A three-goal first period by No. 8 Adrian College was too much to overcome for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team Saturday in an NCHA setback. The Falcons settled in after the first 20 minutes, falling by a 3-1 final.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: No. 8 Adrian 3, Concordia Wisconsin 1
- Location: Ozaukee Ice Center – Mequon, Wisconsin
- Records: Adrian 16-5-2, 15-3 NCHA; Concordia Wisconsin 12-10-1, 9-8-1 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs first goal came in a 4-on-4 situation off the stick of Taylor McCloy. McCloy and a Falcons skater went for a loose puck by the boards near center ice and contact with an official allowed McCloy to break free for a breakaway goal. Kyle Brothers assisted on the play.

- Adrian would strike twice more in the second, including the final goal coming in a 5-on-3 setting for a 3-0 deficit for the Falcons after 20 minutes of play.

- The Falcons cut the Adrian lead to 3-1 late in the second period on the fifth goal of the season from sophomore Eric Therrien (Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan). Sophomore Jon Brumwell (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman Josh Adkins (Victoria, British Columbia) picked up assists on the Therrien score.

- Sophomore Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) made 37 saves for the Falcons on Saturday. He tallied double-digit saves in each period, including stopping the final 22 shots he faced over the final two periods of play.

- Kevin Entmaa made 25 saves to get his 10th win of the season for Adrian.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons now do not control their own destiny in terms of trying to qualify for the Harris Cup Playoffs. After this weekend's results, Lake Forest and MSOE (20 points) have jumped CUW (19) for third place in the South Division, with the top three from each division qualifying.

- The Falcons will need to be two points better than the Foresters next weekend to have a chance at reaching the Harris Cup Playoffs, and one point better than MSOE as well. CUW plays Northland next weekend, while Lake Forest takes on Lawrence and MSOE battles St. Norbert.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will host Northland for two games next weekend, the first of those set for Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
