Erb scores late, helps Men's Hockey secure tie and Lake Michigan Cup

MILWAUKEE – Adam Fauchoux and Nicholas Erb scored to help complete a two-goal comeback in the third period, allowing the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team to secure the Lake Michigan Cup outright for the first time in program history. The Falcons two-goal third period was enough for a 3-3 tie against MSOE, giving them a 1-0-1 weekend against the Raiders in NCHA play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons faced a two-goal deficit heading into the third period but cut the MSOE lead to 3-2 just over midway through the stanza. It was sophomore Adam Fauchoux (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) who scored the first goal of the third for CUW, assisted by Erb.

- CUW pulled goalie Jack Romanuik in favor of the extra skater with 41 seconds remaining and trailing by one. The move paid dividends as Erb (London, Ontario) lit the lamp for the equalizer just 12 seconds later. The game-tying score was assisted by freshman Josh Adkins (Victoria, British Columbia), his fourth assist of the two-game series.

- Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) was outstanding between the pipes for the Falcons as he stopped a career-best 37 shots in the tie. He was at his best during the third period and overtime session, making 11 saves, including four in overtime to secure the Lake Michigan Cup.

- The Falcons first goal came two minutes into the second period with them trailing 1-0 at the time. It was sophomore Connor Hogg (London, Ontario) who recorded the score, an unassisted power play tally.

- MSOE went up 1-0 in the first period on a power play score from Gage Christanson. The Raiders finished the night 2-for-7 with the man advantage, including a second-period power play goal from Matthew Romund. James Ring made the score 3-1 in favor of MSOE later in the second period.

- The Falcons totaled 29 shots on Saturday night, 11 each in the first and third periods. CUW was outshot 4-1 in the overtime session and finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play. The Falcons spent more time in the box Saturday, being whistled 11 times for 41 minutes. The Raiders had eight infractions totaling 24 minutes.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons won the Lake Michigan Cup outright for the first time in program history. CUW and MSOE split season series in 2015-16, as well as in 2013-14.

- The Falcons will continue NCHA play with a road series next weekend at Finlandia. Puck drop of the opening game is set for 7:15 p.m. eastern Friday night.
