Men's Hockey scores key NCHA win over MSOE

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team needed a strong penalty kill late in the game, but received one and an empty-net goal to hold off MSOE Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead and ultimately held on for the 4-2 win, a much-needed NCHA victory for CUW early in the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW scored early as senior Josh Herrington (Aurora, Ontario) lit the lamp just 2:10 into play. Freshmen Dante Hahn (Victoria British Columbia) and Josh Adkins (Victoria, British Columbia) assisted on the opening goal.

- Junior Anthony Pickering (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) made the score 2-0 with a goal 13:57 into the period. Sophomore Nicholas Erb (London, Ontario) and senior David Haaf (Medicine Hat, Alberta) posted helpers on the Pickering goal. MSOE would cut into the Falcons lead with a power play goal just under two minutes later.

- After the Falcons took a 3-1 lead on a Tanner Bull (Brooklin, Ontario) goal in the second period, the Raiders would again make it a one-goal game just over midway into the third. MSOE received a power play opportunity with 1:58 to play and pulled its goalie for much of that advantage but CUW responded with a clutch penalty kill.

- As time expired, sophomore Taylor Gauld (Whitby, Ontario) picked up his first goal of the season. Senior Brandt Weldon (The Pas, Manitoba) and Adkins added helpers on the final goal of the night. Hahn and Adkins picked up assists on Bull's third-period goal, which would go down as the game-winner.

- Sophomore Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) was outstanding between the pipes for the Falcons. He made 23 saves, including several key ones down the stretch to pick up the win. His counterpart, Zach Woodman, stopped 21 shots for the Raiders.

- The Falcons killed off four of five MSOE power play opportunities on Friday, while CUW was scoreless in five chances of their own with the advantage.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win was just the third in program history over the Raiders, but also third in the last four seasons, all coming inside the Ozaukee Ice Center. CUW has now won two straight over MSOE for the first time in program history.

- Adkins three assists night ties him for second in program history for most assists in a game. Three assists has been reached many times for the Falcons, most recently by Trammell Lynes against Aurora last season.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will try and sweep the weekend series against the Raiders tomorrow night. CUW and MSOE are set for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.
