Coaches tab Edgewood, CUC as division champs

Edgewood and Concordia Chicago were predicted to win the 2010-11 Northern Athletics Conference North and South Divisions, respectively, according to the coaches' preseason poll.

Edgewood is coming off a 12-14 overall record, but a second-place (9-7) finish in the North a season ago. They received six first-place votes, ahead of Concordia Wisconsin who received four, and Lakeland who received the remaining two-first place votes.

Edgewood was the coaches' favorite to win the North with 64 total points, in front of second-place Concordia Wisconsin's 61 points and third-place Lakeland's 51 points.

Wisconsin Lutheran--moving into the division after a two-year stay in the South--received 34 points for fourth place, Marian(25 points) was fifth and Maranatha (17 points) rounded out the division in sixth place.

In the South, Concordia Chicago (60 points) received seven first-place votes for the top spot, ahead of Aurora (two first-place votes) and MSOE which both received 49 points. Only three points separated the fourth and fifth spots, with Benedictine (42 points, one first-place vote) ahead of Dominican (39 points, two first-place votes.) Rockford (13 points) was picked sixth in the South and enters the division after two years in the north.

Poll points were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division, with the 12 head coaches voting for all 12 teams.

The 2010-11 NAC Champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship is determined by the eight-team conference tournament held February 23-26.
