Esports wins the Battle for Wisconsin

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team added some hardware to the trophy case over the weekend. CUW battled Carroll in the Battle of Wisconsin and Rocket League Hearthstone and Super Smash Bros all competed.

Betty the cow is making a new home for herself on the shores of Lake Michigan, after Concordia Wisconsin defeated Carroll, 2-1, to claim Betty. The Falcons canned Carroll with a 4-1 victory in Rocket League. CUW clinched the cow with a 2-0 victory in Smash Bros. The Pioneers finished the day with a 3-0 victory in Overwatch.

Overwatch secured the No. 4 seed in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory over Champlain on Friday night.

The Rocket League team of Alex Reimer, Ethan Koch and Austin Esterly secured a spot in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory over California – Davis. CUW secured 2-1, 4-2, 4-0 victories, with Esterly leading the way with seven goals.

"We came into the game knowing it's either win or go home," said Esterly.  "It's safe to say go home wasn't an option."

The Falcons also downed Immaculata in a four vs. four Smash Bros battle on Friday night. CUW picked up a 2-0 victory with a pair of 12-8 and 12-11 victories.

"I had to utilize every ounce of patience I had there to close that out," said DJ Ford. "Especially after being down in perfect. Wow, that was tight. That was a huge win for the crew."

Hearthstone finished the season with a 3-1 victory against Central Methodist. CUW was kept out of the playoffs on a tiebreaker situation.
