Esports continues to fight through the weekend

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team is staying busy as the days start to get longer. The Falcons competed in Overwatch, Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone, Super Smash Bros and Rocket League.

The CUW Overwatch team picked up a pair of wins to end the week. The Falcons grounded Southern New Hampshire, 2-1, and Greenville, 3-0.

Against SNHU, the Falcons rallied after falling in the first game with 3-2 ad 1-0 victories to secure the victory.

"We are absolutely playing our best OW ever right now," said head coach Lewis Smith. "We all got a little scared and surprised by how we lost Map 1, but we bounced back extremely well when it mattered most."

The Blue and White swept Greenville, 2-0, 3-0, 3-2 on Sunday night. Over the three games, sophomore Margaret Vasey (Cudahy, Wis.) had 24210 healing points in the match.

"Honestly, tonight went really great," said Vasey. "We were not only able to secure a victory, but we were all able to experiment with new characters and comps and try to be more 'out of the box' with our play style, which we normally don't get that opportunity in a real competition."

CUW started Magic the Gathering Arena play on Saturday. Senior Alex Pokorski (West Bend, Wis.) finished in fourth place in the MTG Melee Brawl Tourney with a 4-1 record. Freshman Josh Moody (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished in ninth place out of 20 competitors.

In Smash Bros META solos play, junior Gideon Cain (Cedarburg, Wis.) earned a 2-0 with Wolf.

Jack Kral fell in Hearthstone to Durham College, 2-3, Kral led 2-0 after the first two matches.

The Rocket League team of senior Alex Reimer (Sheboygan, Wis.), senior Ethan Koch (Fredericksburg, Iowa) and junior Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.) fell short against Nighthawks, and George Mason, 3-0. Alex Reimer led the flock with five goals.

The Falcons continue to battle on Monday night.
