Falcons compete in the PlayVS Fall Collegiate Championship

MEQUON, Wis. – This weekend, the CUW Esports team competed in the Fall 2020 PlayVS Collegiate Fortnite Championship. The Falcons were one of 66 teams to compete for the grand prize of $15,000 in scholarships.

"This was a league where we knew we could perform well, and did for the majority of the season, so it hurts to fall short of Finals," said head coach Lewis Smith. "I'm still proud of the trio, especially Kodeworld as this was the freshman's first taste of true competitive Fortnite, as we made it clear we can go up against anybody in the country. I can confidently say that the end of the league only fueled the desire of all three of them, and myself, to come back better than ever in the spring semester."

The team of freshman Kodee Keys (Dupo, Ill.), sophomore Austin Lichtenstein (Johnsburg, Ill.) and sophomore Colby Williams (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) finished in 47th place on Saturday, falling short of reaching the finals. The Falcons fell victim to some tough storm locations and attacks from random sharks.

The Blue and White were able to collect $1,000 in scholarships with their top-50 finish.

"It was an amazing league," said Lewis. "We are so thankful to PlayVS for hosting it. We look forward to more of these contested leagues and higher finishes down the road."

The CUW esports team will compete once again in the spring semester.
