Women’s Track and Field Takes Fifth at NACC Outdoor Championships

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track and field closed the NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, where CUW added 43 points to their total on the second day of the competition. As a result, CUW took fifth place and finished with 94.50 points.

The Falcons continued to tack on points in the long-distance track events as senior LeNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) took second place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:12.95 while junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) continued her successful weekend and took fifth place with a time of 18:32.89. In total, Bartel and Yim combined for 12 points.

Meanwhile, senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) led the Falcons in the sprints. In the 100-meter dash, Zahorik claimed fourth place with a time of 12.90 seconds. She also claimed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.11 seconds, earning ten points for the Falcons.

In the mid-distance events, freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) took fifth place in the 1500-meter run and recorded a time of 4:59.24. Van Grinsven also took seventh in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:28.72. 

In the hurdle events, sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) and freshman Sarah Fox (Rochester, Minn.) led Concordia. Hielscher competed in the 100-meter hurdles, contributing five points, taking fourth place, and recording a time of 15.58 seconds. Meanwhile, Sarah Fox took seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.69, good enough for two points. 

Maya Hielscher also continued to add points for the Falcons in the field events. In the long jump, Hielscher took seventh place after leaping 5.22 meters, while she tied for sixth place in the high jump with a height of 1.42 meters. 

In the 4x400-meter relays, the Falcons took seventh place when their squad of senior Madison Chiappetta (Lenexa, Kan.), Danielle Van Grinsven, freshman Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.), and Jenna Zahorik recorded a combined time of 4:24.23, helping the Falcons scratch two points. 

In multis, freshman Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) and senior Kaitlynn Sabish (Campbellsport, Wis.) took tenth and 11th place in the heptathlon as Van Rixel recorded a score of 2,413 while Sabish recorded a score of 1,515. 

Saturday was the final team competition for the Falcons in 2022, while some individuals may compete in a last-chance meet.
