Falcons Open the NACC Championships in Third Place

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track and field opened the NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Donald J. Schneider Stadium on the campus of St. Norbert College. 

After the first day of action, the Falcons are in third place with 51.5 points, just a half point behind second-place MSOE. CUW claimed 34 points in the distance events, 13 points in the throws, and four and a half points from jumps. 

Senior LeNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) continued her excellent season in the 10,000-meter run and took first place with a time of 38:06.30, while Anessa Yim took second in the event with a time of 39:21.65, totaling 18 points for the Falcons. 

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) took first place with a time of 11:36.29. Yim's time now sits at third all-time in program history. Meanwhile, also in the steeplechase, freshman Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) took third place with a time of 12:02.40, which ranks fifth all-time in CUW women's track and field program history. In total, the Falcons claimed 16 points from the steeplechase. 

Sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took first place in the javelin throw when she recorded a distance of 38.82 meters in her very first throw of the day. Hielscher set the new school record with her throw and earned the Falcons ten points. 

The javelin throws also saw senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) take sixth place and help CUW claim three additional points after her final throw reached a distance of 30.01 meters. As a result of her throw, Maas also set her new personal record.  

Senior Paige Winterfeldt (Roseville, Minn.) tied for fourth place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.96 meters. 

The Falcons will close the championships on Saturday.
