Relays Rewrite History at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Falcon women's track and field team traveled to UW-Whitewater to compete at the Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on Friday, April 28th, against Divisions I, II, and III teams. 

In the 4x100, the Falcons, whose relay is comprised of senior Hannah Ebel (Mount Clemens, Mich.), senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.), junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), and sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took third with a combined time of 49.81 seconds, breaking the program's previous record of 49.83 seconds. 

Jenna Zahorik and Sabrina Moore also did damage in the 100-meter dash as they placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 12.90 and 12.99 seconds. 

Zahorik also placed third in the 200-meter dash and set a personal record of 25.99 seconds, good enough for second all-time in school history. 

Freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) led the Falcons in the 800-meter run and achieved a new personal record with 2:23.52 seconds, placing her in eighth. Her time was also good enough for sixth in program history. 

More additions to the top ten list came in the 1500-meter run when junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) recorded a time of 4:56.31, good enough for third place. As a result, she set a personal record and placed sixth all-time in CUW's history. 

Freshman duo Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) and Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill) both placed inside the top-15 in the 1500-meter run. Poehlman placed 11th with a time of 5:11.95, while Arvis placed 13th with a time of 5:13.83.

The 3000-meter steeplechase saw freshman Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) claim second place with a time of 12:04.51, finishing just two seconds behind first place. Sainz de Rosas' time was also a personal record beating her previous attempt at the Marquette Invite on April 22nd. Furthermore, the time also placed fifth in CUW women's track and field program history. 

In the 5000-meter run, sophomore Ella Stader (Oostburg, Wis.) took home third place with a 20:33.78 and set a personal record. 

In the 400-meter dash, senior Madison Chiappetta (Lenexa, Kan.) took 15th with a time of 1:04.97. 

The 100-meter hurdles featured Maya Hielscher taking fifth place with a time of 15.51 seconds, while freshman Sarah Fox (Rochester, Minn.) took sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:18.11. 

The Falcons also had some success in the jumping pit. Freshman Amelia Wiener (North Fon du Lac, Wis.) led the Falcons in the high jump and placed 17th at 1.38 meters. 

Meanwhile, sophomore Kalleigh Thorne (Bonduel, Wis.) leaped a distance of 4.69 meters and placed 11th, while Sabrina Moore took 12th and jumped 4.55 meters. 

The triple jump saw Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) place ninth, jumping 10.16 meters. As a result, she set a new personal record as her distance placed her in the top ten in program history for the triple jump.

In the pole vault, freshman Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) tied her PR, clearing a height of 3.16 meters which was good enough for 12th place.  

Senior Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.) led the flock in the discus and threw 33.83 meters, earning 19th place, while senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) 12th place with a throw of 28.58 meters.

The Concordia Falcons will compete at the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next Friday, May 5th, and Saturday, May 6th. The meet will be hosted by St. Norbert College, specifically at the Donald J. Schneider Stadium in De Pere, Wisconsin.
