Corner named NWA Coach of the Year, three wrestlers win titles
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Concordia
University Wisconsin wrestling head coach Bret Corner was named
Coach of the Year and three wrestlers won titles at their
respective weight class on Saturday at the Northern Wrestling
Association Tournament inside Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Falcons finished in third place as a team with
86.5 points, just three points behind co-champions Lakeland College
and MSOE.
Freshman Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) won the
125-pound weight class after earning a pair of wins by fall (1:03,
2:41) and a major decision victory, 19-6, in the finals.
Junior Marcus Lubner (Fredonia, Wis.) advanced to the
finals of the 133-pound weight class after winning by decision,
13-9, and major decision, 12-2. In the finals it took him overtime
against Austin Binish of MSOE before pulling out an 8-5
victory.
Freshman Greg Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) cruised to
the 141-pound weight class with two wins by fall (2:04, 1:30) and
by technical fall, 17-2.
Sanders was also named NWA Freshman of the Year.
It was Corner's seventh Coach of the Year honors.
