Women's Hockey completes series sweep of Finlandia

MEQUON, Wis. – A dominance in puck possession, which resulted in a program-record 66 shots, helped the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team complete a sweep of Finlandia University with a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon. The event was also part of Pink the Rink as the Falcons wore pink jerseys and sold various items to help in the fight against cancer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons fired at least 21 shots in each period, dominating each 20-minute session. Sophomore Emily Kuhlman (Cold Springs, Minn.) started the scoring for CUW with her first goal of the season, coming 5:09 into play. Junior Chloe Bachman (St. Peter, Minn.) picked up her first point of the season with an assist on the play.

- Just 2:36 later, senior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) continued to inch closer to the Falcons career points record with a shorthanded score, assisted by senior Brandi Muller. Metanova is now three points from tying Sarah Luberda for the Falcons career points mark. She also set the program record with her third career shorthanded score.

- The final tally of the day came 3:09 into the second from senior Baylee Darling (Holman, Wis.). Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior Amanda Curtin (Houston, Texas) assisted on the Darling goal.

- Sophomore Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) made 12 saves and recorded her fourth career shutout. Pattengale is now tied for the Falcons career record for most games not allowing a goal.

- Finlandia goaltender Breanna Merriam played well in defeat. She was busy all afternoon and finished the game with an impressive 63 saves.

- Both teams struggled on the power play with the Falcons going 0-for-6 and the Lions finishing the game 0-for-4.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Metanova's three career shorthanded scores, which broke a nine-way tie atop the Falcons career list, have all come this season. She had two in a win over Bethel earlier this month.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will remain at home for a crucial two-game NCHA series against Marian next weekend. The opening game of the weekend set will be Friday at 7 p.m.
