HOW IT HAPPENED
- It took over a period-and-a-half for the scoring to get started on Saturday. The Blazers went up 1-0 11:24 into the second period on the 10th goal of the season for Elli Marvin. Marvin also had the Blazers lone goal Friday night.
- The Falcons responded quickly as junior captain Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) lit the lamp just 27 seconds later to even things at one. The goal was Holman's fourth of the season and was assisted by seniors Baylee Darling (Holmen, Wis.) and Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska).
- The game-winning score came just 2:15 into the third period off the stick of Saint Benedict's Allison Kirk. Marvin and Kaitlyn Miller assisted on the game-winning score.
- The Falcons had some great chances to tie the game and finished the contest with a 30-29 edge in shots on goal. CUW pulled goaltender Breanna Thomson with 1:36 remaining on the clock in favor of the extra attacker but the Blazers Amy Jost held strong, finishing off her 29-save performance with a win.
- Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) finished the game with 27 saves. She made 10 of those stops in the final period while adding nine in the second and eight in the first.
- After a perfect game on special teams Friday night, CUW was unable to take advantage of four power plays on Saturday. Saint Benedict was 1-for-4 on the power play.
