Women's Hockey skates to 2-2 tie against St. Scholastica

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team and St. Scholastica have a history of playing to ties. Entering Sunday, the Falcons and Saints had tied five times in 16 career meetings. After Sunday, the Falcons and Saints have now tied six times in 17 career meetings as the two skated to a 2-2 score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score 2-1 in favor of the Saints, junior captain Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) buried her third goal of the season with 6:58 remaining in regulation. Senior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.), who scored the Falcons first goal, assisted on the Holman game-tying score.

- Freshman Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) impressed in her first home start in a Falcons uniform. She made 26 stops, including 10 in the third period and two more in the overtime session. Lindsey Hartfiel also had 26 saves for the Saints.

- After a scoreless first period, Metanova put the Falcons in the lead with a 5-on-3 score 8:52 into the second. Sophomore Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) made a great pass across the defense to Metanova who was there to bury the shot. Sophomore Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) also assisted on the Metanova score.

- The Saints went up 2-1 after two power play goals from Sierra Hanowski in a 49-second span. Hanowski's first was scored on a 5-on-3 advantage, while her second came on the power play as well. Brenna Smith and Kennedy Houge assisted on each goal.

- The Falcons had five shots in overtime, including three or four really good chances but Hartfiel and the Saints defense held on for the 2-2 tie.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons and Saints have now tied in each of their last two meetings and in six of 17 all-time meetings. The two teams have never played an overtime game that did not end in a tie. In addition, four of the eight games played at the Ozaukee Ice Center in the series have ended in a tie.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be off next weekend before playing two games at St. Norbert on December 2-3. The first game is set for Friday night at 7 p.m.
