Brunner’s 100th is a MONSTER win

Milwaukee

Stacey Brunner put together a frightening non-conference schedule for her 2009-10 Falcons, hoping that competing against a trio of natioanlly-ranked teams would toughen her young squad for the rigorous NAC slate.

Mission accomplished to date as Concordia went on the road for the second time this week to defeat a talented team that was in position to challenge Falcon supremacy.

On Saturday CUW, 8-1 in league play, took the lead on their first possession of the second half and never trailed from that point on against WLC (6-2). Once again the victors displayed terrific offensive balance with eight players scoring between 5 and 11 points.

Five of six free throw shooting by Melanie Kulibert and Ashleigh Galligan over the final :30 held off the Warriors who were paced by Whitney Miller and Rachel Johnson with 15 points each.

Concordia controlled the boards 51- 34 but turned the ball over 20 times and shot a mediocre 36%. "We don't have one main offensive threat and sometimes that is an advantage in term of teams not knowing how to prepare for us", said Brunner.

"We made mistakes...credit their defense... but it was a great win. WLC is a very tough place to play."

The victory was the 100th for Coach Brunner since taking over a floundering CUW program. Twelve straight losses preceeded her first collegiate win, but since that time the Falcons have been THE force in the Northern Athletic Conference, winning three straight league titles. Brunner is 100-51 overall.
