Men's Lacrosse announces 2020 captains

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin's Men's Lacrosse team has named its captains for the 2020 season, as announced by head coach Michael Fahey. The leaders of the Falcons will be seniors Nate Oekerman, Ryan Voskuil and Warner Marquez, along with juniors Keijo Day and Connor Peterson.  

Defender Nate Oekerman (Beaverton Oregon) will be leading the Falcons defense for the second time as a captain and the defender was named All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference Second Team as a long-stick midfielder last year. He appeared in 18 games, making 17 starts, and recorded a goal and an assist. He picked up 49 ground balls, caused 26 turnovers and had five or more ground balls in four games. Oekerman recorded a career-high eight ground balls and four caused turnovers against MSOE (March 9) and is ranked fifth all-time in program history for caused turnovers (67).

Attackmen Keijo Day (Duluth Minnesota) will also be leading the Falcons for a second time as a captain and was named All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference Second Team as an attackman a season ago. He led the team in points (58), goals (41) and assists (17), while taking 137 shots, with 85 coming on goal. Day scored one game-winning goal, had a team-high-tying seven man-up scores, picked up 32 ground balls, caused nine turnovers and tallied a hat trick or better in seven games. He assisted on multiple goals in five contests, scored a career-high five goals against Dubuque (March 1) and assisted on a career-best-tying three markers at Medaille (March 22).

Defender Ryan Voskuil (Flower Mound, Texas) is a first-time captain for the Falcons, with the defender being named All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference First Team as a defenseman during the 2019 campaign. He earned MLC Defensive Player of the Week honors once (April 15). Voskuil appeared in 16 games, making 15 starts, picked up 22 ground balls and caused 27 turnovers. He had three or more ground balls in four games and a career-high five caused turnovers against Concordia Chicago (April 13).

Midfielder Warner Marquez (Danville, California) is also captaining the Falcons for the first time. The midfielder appeared in 16 games, recorded 22 points, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 11 markers a year ago. He took 56 shots, with 23 coming on goal, scored one game-winning goal, picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Marquez scored a career-high four goals at Benedictine (March 13) and assisted on a career-best three scores at Medaille (March 22).

Attackmen Connor Peterson (Calgary, Alberta) is a first-time captain. He appeared in 12 games, last year and recorded six points, scoring five goals and assisting on one marker. Peterson took 14 shots, with 11 coming on goal, picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. He recorded two goals and an assist, one ground ball and one caused turnover against North Central (Minn.) (April 19).
