Northwestern Nips Football

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin football team stumbled in the final non-conference game of the season at Northwestern. The Eagles sent the Falcons to 1-1 on the year with a 26-10 victory.

The Eagles took a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdowns in the second and third quarters.

Senior Evan Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard when he stripped the football from the running back and returned the fumble 20 yards for a touchdown.

The Purple and Gold pushed the lead to 10 points with a field goal to start the fourth quarter.

CUW responded with a 29-yard field goal from freshman Nick Klein (Rome City, Ind.).

Northwestern closed the game on a 10-0 in the final 67 seconds to secure the victory.

Offensively, Concordia was led by senior Michael Purkey (Woodstock, Ill.) with 133 yards through the air, senior Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) with 32 yards rushing and sophomore Jason Leonard (Tampa, Fla.) with 55 receiving yards.

Junior Justice Kaneta (Brighton, Colo.) led the flock with 16 tackles on Saturday.

The Falcons will regroup and focus on retaining the Cheese Bowl on Saturday at Lakeland.
