Edgewood Gets Best of Falcons in Wednesday Doubleheader

VERONA, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin baseball team faced off against the Edgewood Eagles in a doubleheader on Wednesday evening, falling in both games by 19-8 and 6-1 scores.

After a three-run performance from the Eagles in the first inning of the opening contest, junior Kyle Flynn (Nashville, Tenn.) responded to the effort with a solo shot to center field in the second for his first home run of the season.

The Eagles picked up a pair of additional runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Falcons responded once again, as a Flynn sacrifice fly and an RBI single from sophomore Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.) trimmed the deficit down to two.

As part of an effort that included three home runs, Edgewood plated 11 runs across its next three half-innings at the plate to seize a commanding hold of the game.

Senior Jimmy Juergensen (Cedarburg, Wis.) ended the scoring run with his third home run of the season in the sixth inning, while a groundout from junior Isaac Schmidt (Waukesha, Wis.) later in the frame sent senior Cody Maier (Mandan, N.D.) across home plate.

The Eagles notched three additional runs in the seventh inning, an effort countered by Concordia in the bottom half of the frame. Sophomore Anthony Buono (Streamwood, Ill.) doubled to left field to bat in Concordia's sixth run of the day, while a Maier sacrifice fly and single by freshman Jordan Vasquez (Chicago, Ill.) left the Falcons with eight total runs in the game.

The second bout of the evening saw Edgewood hold a 2-0 advantage through three innings, but Maier cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the fourth that scored junior Brynden Cleveland (Crestwood, Ill.).

After the Eagles earned the run back, the Falcons neared another score in the following inning, as senior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) doubled to place freshman Connor Lasch (Chicago, Ill.) on third base, but the threat was thwarted by Edgewood in the ensuing at-bat.

The Eagles managed to put distance on the scoreboard in the seventh inning, scoring twice to take a three-run lead. An additional run in the eighth inning put the team on a winning track, and it captured the 6-1 victory in the following half-inning.

Concordia will look to get back on a winning path in its next series of games on April 13 against the 10-14 Rockford Regents.
