Baseball Dominates Dominican

SCHAUMBURG, Ill – The Concordia Wisconsin baseball team opened the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference season on Saturday afternoon at Dominican. The Falcons started NACC play with a commanding sweep of the Stars with a 7-1, 11-0 performance to open conference play at 2-0 and improve to 7-7.

The Falcons drew first blood on Saturday in the second inning when junior Owen Burns (Morris, Ill.) blasted a single to left field to score sophomore Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.) and senior Jimmy Juergensen (Cedarburg, Wis.) with the bases loaded.

In the third inning, freshman Ryan Le (Orland Park, Ill.) also sent the ball to left field with the bases loaded and sent home junior Brynden Cleveland (Crestwood, Ill.) and senior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.). A throwing error then scored Le and Matt Miller.

In the fourth inning, Jimmy Juergensen sent a double to left field that plated senior Jack Owens (Chicago, Ill.).

The Stars scored their lone run of the day in the seventh inning on a double.

Junior Zach Slome (Schaumburg, Ill.) dominated Dominican with 11 strikeouts in the victory and held the Stars to only three hits.

Ryan Le led game one with two hits. The Falcons also stole three bases in the victory.

Concordia started the game with three hits to start the game, but couldn't plate a runner until the fourth inning.

Freshman Jordan Vazquez (Chicago, Ill.) started the scoring with a double to center field that scored Ryan Le and Tyler Murray.

Cole Aguirre was walked with the bases loaded to allow freshman Connor Lasch (Chicago, Ill.) to trot across home plate.

A sacrifice fly from Brynden Cleveland allowed Jordan Vazquez to cross home plate.

The Birds scored four more runs in the fifth inning.

Ryan Le started the action with a double to left field to send home Matt Miller.

Jordan Vazquez then crushed the ball to center field on a single that scored Murray.

A single to right field from Cole Aguirre scored Lasch and Le.

Brynden Cleveland scored the final runs of the day when he cleared the bases with a double to left field that enabled Cole Aguirre, Jack Owens and Jordan Vazquez to score.

Senior Jack Hribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had an amazing start on the mound in game two and only allowed two hits and struck out three Stars. Junior Luke Bruckner (Fon du Lac, Wis.) pitched the final inning and recorded a strikeout.

The Falcons look to extend their winning streak to five games on Tuesday at Carthage.
