Women's Cross Country finishes sixth at Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Cross Country team finished sixth at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morning. The Falcons were paced by junior Nora Imperl, who finished fourth in the 210-runner field, at the meet hosted by the University of Minnesota.

THE BASICS
- Course: Les Bolstad Golf Course (6K) – St. Paul, Minn.
- Falcons Result: Sixth in the Women's Marron (Division III race) – 165 points
- Falcons Top Five: Imperl – 24:17.8; Molly Wirtz – 25:32.3; Ashley Scheele – 25:44.9; Martha Kulberg – 26:34.8; Carolyn Arndt – 26:42.3

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.) had another strong race in pacing the cast of Falcons. She took fourth by posting a time of 24:17.8. Imperl was one of just twelve runners to come in under 25 minutes.

- Wirtz (Stevens Point, Wis.) was next in line for the Falcons, posting a time of 25:32.3, which was good for a 25th place finish. Wirtz was followed by Scheele (Kohler, Wis.), who clocked in at 25:44.9.

- The final two scoring runners for CUW Saturday were Martha Kulberg and Carolyn Arndt, both running well in their home state. Kulberg (Maple Grove, Minn.) posted a time of 26:34.8, while Arndt was close behind at 26:42.3.

- Junior Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.) posted a time of 26:49.3 for the Falcons on the 6K course, while junior Paulina Agnello (Brookfield, Wis.) crossed the finish line in 26:59.6.

THE MEET
- The Roy Griak Invitational is a large meet that features 10 races, ranging from high school to a Division I collegiate race. The Falcons competed in the Suzy Wilson Women's Marron III race Saturday.

- UW-Oshkosh captured the team title by placing its top four runners in the top 12. The Titans edged St. Olaf (69-75).

- Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer finished first by running a time of 23:11.9.

UP NEXT
- CUW will have next weekend off before competing in the Benedictine Eagle Invitational in two weeks. The meet is set for Friday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m.
