Women's Hockey falls in NCHA road contest at No. 5 Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – For the second straight day the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team battled well against the No. 5 ranked team in the country, Lake Forest College. Unfortunately the Falcons efforts came up a little short once again, this time resulting in a 4-2 loss against the Foresters Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: No. 5 Lake Forest 4, Concordia Wisconsin 2
- Location: Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse – Lake Forest, Ill.
- Records: Lake Forest 17-1-1, 12-0-0 NCHA; Concordia Wisconsin 5-13-1, 3-10-0 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was the Falcons who struck first as sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) continued her impressive run with a shorthanded goal 2:50 into play. The Falcons were whistled for a too many players on the ice penalty 2:42 into play, but eight seconds later Holman struck with the team's first shorthanded score of the season. The goal pushed Holman's streak of consecutive games with a point to 11.

- Lake Forest would still capitalize on the early power play opportunity, scoring with eight seconds left with the advantage to tie the game, 1-1. Melissa Bodine's goal, which came 4:34 into play, was assisted by Isabel Regine. Lake Forest would then take a 2-1 lead 8:17 into the opening stanza on a goal from Michelle Greeneway.

- Olivia Spellmire had the final two goals for the Foresters, one in the second, and the final one in the third period, building a 4-1 lead for the home team.

- The Falcons would cut into the Lake Forest lead when junior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) netted her third goal of the season midway through the final stanza. Senior Lexi Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and freshman Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) picked up assists on the play.

- Sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) got the start at goaltender for the Falcons as she finished the game with 24 saves. CUW was outshot 28-14 for the game. Jacqueline Audet picked up her second win of the season for the Foresters.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- If Holman can pick up a point in the Falcons next game (at Finlandia) she would tie the program record for most consecutive games with a point. Her streak is now at 11 games, while Jamie Athens holds the program mark with 12 straight.

- Machuga's assist was the 37th of her career, which moves her into fifth-place all-time for the Falcons.

- Holman is now up to 22 points on the season (10 goals, 12 assists), which is good for the eighth most productive season in CUW history. She also currently has the single-season record for most points scored per game at 1.18. Holman is still in striking distance of the single season points mark, which was 32 by Sarah Luberda in 2010-11.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will remain on the road next weekend with another NCHA weekend series. CUW is set for two games against Finlandia, with the opener of that series scheduled for Saturday night at 7:15 pm EST.
