No. 6 Lake Forest downs Women's Hockey in NCHA play

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team dropped a NCHA matchup against the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, Lake Forest College, by a 4-1 score Tuesday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Play was very even for the first period as Lake Forest held a 9-8 edge in shots after 20 minutes of play. The Foresters had the only goal of the opening stanza, a power play score from Alex Stensland 12:17 into play.

- Lake Forest would take a 2-0 lead 5:36 into the second period when Leah Ebdon scored. Isabel Regine and Julianne Mauriello assisted on the play.

- The Falcons lone goal of the night was scored midway through the second period and came from senior captain Lexi Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.). Machuga's power play score was a rebound off a shot from sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.). Freshman Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) added an assist on the goal as well.

- The Foresters would add two more goals, one more in the second and one in the third, to make the final 4-1. The Falcons came out strong in the third period when trailing 3-1 and got several great scoring chances but credit Lake Forest goaltender Allie Carter for keeping the Foresters lead at 3-1. Carter finished the game with 26 saves.

- Sophomore goaltender Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) picked up a career-high 36 saves for the Falcons on Tuesday night. Kurek had 13 of those in second period and 15 in the third.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons power play continues to produce this season. CUW finished 1-for-2 with the advantage and have now converted on 9-of-27 (33.3 percent) of its power plays, which ranks fifth nationally. Lake Forest was also 1-for-2 on the power play Tuesday.

- Tuesday marked the second time this season CUW has taken on a top 10 team. The Falcons also fell in a matchup at then No. 2 Adrian earlier this month.

UP NEXT

- CUW will head to Duluth Saturday for another NCHA contest, this one against St. Scholastica. Puck drop between the Falcons and Saints is set for 3 p.m.
