No. 2 Adrian rallies past Women's Hockey with third period comeback

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team took a 2-1 lead into the third period against the No. 2 ranked team in the country Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs would respond on their home ice, however, as the Falcons dropped a 4-2 NCHA contest.

- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 1-2-1, 0-2-0 NCHA; Adrian 3-1-0, 2-0-0 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Each team scored in the opening period, with the host Bulldogs building a 1-0 lead 2:44 into play on an unassisted score from Logan Taylor. The Falcons would gain the first period equalizer with just under five minutes remaining in the period as sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.). Freshman Andie Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) picked up her first career collegiate point with an assist on the play, while senior Hannah Zobel (Reedsburg, Wis.) added an assist as well.

- The Falcons would take a 2-1 lead 6:26 into the second stanza as senior captain Lexi Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) and senior Chelsea Regan (Oakdale, Minn.) each assisted on the Machuga goal.

- Freshman Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) was outstanding in the first two periods as she made 31 saves to keep the Falcons in front. Pattengale posted an impressive 20 saves in the second period, and added 19 in the third, finishing with a career-best 50 stops.

- Adrian's shot advantage would ultimately get to the Falcons in the third period as the Bulldogs struck three times. Adrian's first goal came 1:53 into the third, while the game-winner was scored with under seven minutes remaining by Brooke Lupi.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons dropped to 0-2-0 in the NCHA play this season as they've had a couple difficult road games to start the season. CUW will play its next three league contests on its home ice over the next 10 days.

- CUW was the more penalized team on Sunday, being whistled six times for 12 penalty minutes. The Falcons penalty kill fared well by stopping five of Adrian's six power play attempts. CUW itself was 0-for-2 on power play opportunities.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will host Marian in an NCHA matchup Tuesday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Puck drop between the Falcons and Sabres is set for 7 p.m.
