Women's Hockey drops non-conference matchup with Bethel

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team fell in a non-conference matchup against Bethel Saturday afternoon by a 4-2 score. The loss was the third straight for the Falcons as Bethel came away with a weekend sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead as senior Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) put them up 1-0 with her first goal of the season. Junior Nicole Krumwiede (Itasca, Ill.) and freshman Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba) assisted on the play. The assist marked the first career point for Danis.

- Bethel built a 2-1 lead before the first period ended as they struck twice within a two-minute span. Lauren Kolak tied the game at 1-1, while Caroline Kivisto scored a shorthanded goal with seven minutes to go in the period for a 2-1 lead.

- The lone goal of the second period came from junior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska). Muller's goal came on the power play and was assisted by senior Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) and sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.).

- Bethel would score two third period goals for the 4-2 win, the latter of those being an empty-netter. Wendy Roberts had the game-winning power play score for the Royals, coming 7:21 into the third period. Kivisto added her second shorthanded score of the game for the 4-2 final.

- Sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) finished the game with 26 saves for the Falcons, who were outshot by a 30-23 margin.

- CUW had several power play chances, but could only convert on one of its opportunities. The Falcons finished 1-for-7 on the power play, while Bethel was 1-for-3.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will stay at home for a weekend series against Adrian next weekend. The opener is set for a 7 p.m. start Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
